Professional Life

My first job out of high school was at a printing factory as a press assistant on a 12 hour night shift, alternating three and four days a week. My role was to make sure that press operators had everything that they needed to keep the press running. After a summer of that, I shifted into a shipping and receiving position as a shipping clerk at the same factory. I would package, schedule, and load shipments as well as receive any incoming packages and organize half of the warehouse. I did this for about a year before I got my current job at what was then U.C. Synergetic, now Pike Engineering. I started out in the telecommunications division working on projects for AT&T, quickly changing to a project working on checking power pole strength in Atlanta for the scheduled Google Fiber installs, which I did for quite some time. After about a year of doing that though, the work for that project began to dry up and I was shifted into a consulting position in the company where I worked on early stages of renewable energy planning in the Carolinas. After that it was a short stint as what was essentially a circuit analyst, gathering data on existing Duke Energy circuits, checking it for potential faults and areas that needed updating then presenting these potential changes to the engineers at Duke for approval. I then moved down to Florida for school at Full Sail University where I began doing some work order planning work on specific poles within Duke Energy's power grid here in Central Florida

Leadership Qualities

In high school, I did AFJROTC all four years where I reached the rank of Lt. Colonel. A couple of the roles I served during my time in JROTC was the leader of our Color Guard where we presented the colors for our state's high school football championship. I was the first team leader for our Marksmanship program during which our team placed third in the nation for AFJROTC units. I also attended Cadet Officer Leadership School one summer with several other students from my unit as well as many from other schools in my home state. Once I graduated, the next position I found experience in was I was essentially a foreman or production manager for one of the projects I worked at Pike Engineering. I made sure that everyone working on the project was on the same page as to what the client wanted and if they needed help or extra training, I gave it to them. We inherited the project from another group at a different office and when we did, we also inherited their tracking spreadsheet which I quickly learned was slowing the whole process down and doing a poor job of tracking workflow anyways so I scrapped it and completely designed one from scratch that anyone needing to report work into it would only have to enter a couple of things and it would print out numbers and charts and even, once each job was checked, error percentage data for each job we did.

Education

I received my BS in Game Design from Full Sail University in June of 2019. I began my time at Full Sail as an online student working through about half of the program before transferring to on campus where I would continue to work part-time at my job with Pike Engineering and attend school in Florida. I transferred to the campus program for a variety of reasons, but the primary reason is the material was becoming too much for me to manage online. I was not absorbing the material well through this medium and my grades were suffering significantly for it. Once I got on campus, my grades began to improve and I was able to get back into it as well as find many excellent opportunities to work with my fellow students and network with some amazing industry professionals, an experience I feel I would have largely missed had I stayed an online student.

Personal Life

In my personal life, I find that most of my free time is taken up by playing one of two tabletop RPGs, Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, or Pathfinder. It is easily my favorite past time, I have been both player and DM for games. I also listen to audiobooks, watch Critical Role and Achievement Hunter when I can, play videogames, and play bass on occasion. I also used to record and edit videos with some friends, all the videos here were recorded and edited by me.
